At&t has started a cruise package so you can use your phone while cruising without incurring all the roaming fees, etc Will be cruising again soon and although i would like to be off grid on my vacations, i need to be in contact during this tim. I was just pricing it, and it is cheaper than the social media package on carnival

Has anyone used the at&t package yet Has anybody used the at&t cruise package on any carnival ship and what are your thoughts How did it work for you?
At&t has three cruise ship plans that can be used on eligible ships and in eligible ports
1) a calling and texting plan $50 for 30 days gives you 50 minutes talk time and unlimited send texts, 2) a calling, data and texting plan $100 for 30 days gives you 200mb data, unlimited talk and unlimited send text, and 3) a $3.00 per minute plan. After talking to an at&t rep over chat, it sounds like the at&t package is only good for talk and text at sea, but if i want to go to cnn and read an article, or check the weather, i have to use carn.
At&t considers usvi as stateside so calls don't roam to bvi towers except maybe on the far east end of st john I always turn off roaming on my phones so it can't use other towers. We all have at&t and all have iphones Is it necessary we purchase one of the cruise plans with at&t
I see people mention cheaper ways to stay in touch with others on the ship but i don't know how to do that without buying the $50 plan
Edited november 24, 2018 by sks1973 On at&t you would need the international day pass, at what is now $12/day to use your phone in those countries It is a flick of a switch on your at&t cellular account online to activate the international day pass, and you only get charged for it if your phone connects to a cellular network in a foreign country. Will be on quantum of the seas rccl cruise in may thinking of using the at&t cruise package plan to make wireless calls while on the ship
Since this is a short cruise seattle/sitka/ victoria/se. I found out you don't need to set your phone to 'airplane mode The at&t plan is all you need On the at&t page it indicates there is the normal charge for incoming text, pictures, and video
Do you know does this mean if i get a text, i am charged at the cellular at sea rate or my normal rate (that is at no additional charge for me)?
